After representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA 80), Vice President Kashim Shettima left New York for Germany. Stanley Nkwocha, his media assistant, said Shettima will meet Deutsche Bank officials to explore collaboration on Nigeria’s development projects.
While at UNGA 80, Shettima received praise from UN Secretary-General António Guterres for Nigeria’s bid for a permanent UN Security Council seat. He also strengthened strategic alliances with the UK on trade, defense, and migration.
Shettima presented Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity and urged Africa to take ownership of its $700 billion mineral wealth and digital inclusion programs.
He delivered President Tinubu’s national statement, advocating UN reforms and Nigeria’s permanent Security Council seat.
He also collaborated with the Gates Foundation to expand healthcare and education, positioning Nigeria as a prime location for the $3.4 trillion African Continental Free Trade Area market.
According to the statement, cabinet ministers and Nigerian Mission representatives bid Shettima farewell at JFK Airport. He will return to Nigeria promptly after his Germany engagements.
