The US has responded to the Federal Government’s misunderstandings about its new nonimmigrant visa program.
According to a post on X by the US Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, Nigeria’s stance on third-country deportees, the implementation of e-visa regulations, or ties to organizations like BRICS are not to blame for the recent decrease in the validity of the majority of US visas for nonimmigrants.
In an appearance on a Channels Television program on Thursday, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, ascribed the policy to Nigeria’s stance against allowing Venezuelan prisoners to enter the nation at the request of the US government.
The US Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria added, however, that the validity reduction was a component of a global review of foreign countries’ use of US visas, which uses technical and security standards to protect US immigration systems.
The U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria added;
The U.S. Mission Nigeria wishes to address misconceptions about the recent reduction in visa validity for most nonimmigrant U.S. visas in Nigeria and other countries. This reduction is not the result of any nation’s stance on third-country deportees, introduction of e-visa… pic.twitter.com/raOHQo4o8Z
