A new US bill targets Miyetti Allah groups for alleged violations of religious freedom in Nigeria.

The proposed law accuses the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore of serious abuses against Christians. It recommends visa bans and asset freezes for members of both groups.

The bill’s sponsor, Representative Smith Christopher, praised US President Donald Trump for re-designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom Act.

Countries classified as CPCs are seen as committing or tolerating severe religious freedom violations.

The announcement came as Nigeria’s Federal Government said it remains calm about the US position on the alleged persecution of Christians.

Officials confirmed that Nigeria has established direct communication with Washington to ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity.

President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his government’s determination to eliminate terrorism and strengthen global partnerships.

He promised closer cooperation with international allies despite rising political tensions following Trump’s threats of possible US military intervention.

Tinubu said his administration would keep engaging partners constructively.

“The most important thing is the fact that despite the political headwinds and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with our partners,” he said.

“So, the task ahead is immense. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in the country.”

Following the briefing, Finance Minister Wale Edun stated that the government’s reform agenda continues to attract investor confidence and deliver economic benefits.

Meanwhile, US defense officials reportedly admitted that limited airstrikes or drone operations may not end Nigeria’s long-standing insurgency.

According to The New York Times, the Pentagon is drafting contingency plans for possible airstrikes after Trump ordered preparations to “intervene” in defense of Christians facing terrorist attacks.
