The UK government has introduced new rules restricting overseas workers from filling over 100 jobs. The Home Office announced on X that the policy reshapes the visa system and prioritizes British workers.
“More than 100 occupations are now closed to overseas recruitment. This opens up jobs for British workers under a fairer, skills-focused system,” the Home Office said.
The move is the latest by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who took office on July 5, 2024, after Labour’s landslide victory.
Critics warn the UK foreign worker visa restrictions could worsen labor shortages in social services, healthcare, logistics, and hospitality. These visa restrictions affect thousands of migrants who relied on these jobs for legal employment in the UK.
The Home Office has yet to publish the complete list of restricted occupations, but the ban covers healthcare support, public services, creative industries, and other key fields.
