Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Katung confirmed the move in a statement, saying his decision followed “deep consideration and wide consultations” with residents, supporters, and political stakeholders.

“This decision, though deeply considered, was not made lightly,” the senator said. “Over the years, I have remained steadfast in my commitment to democracy, good governance, and service to the people, which the PDP has long stood for. However, evolving political realities within our nation and my constituency have necessitated a re-evaluation of the platform best suited to advance the aspirations and welfare of my people.”

Explaining why Sunday Katung defected to the APC, he said the ruling party’s “current direction and leadership” offer “renewed hope for inclusiveness, stability, and sustainable development.” He added that his desire to better serve his constituents and Nigeria drove his defection.

“I hold in high regard the friendships, collaborations, and experiences I have shared with colleagues and leaders in the PDP,” Katung said. “I remain profoundly grateful for the opportunities the party afforded me over the years and wish it continued success in its future endeavours.”
