Nigerian musician Reekado Banks, whose real name is Ayoleyi Solomon, has once again considered his choice to leave Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, acknowledging that it was “premature.”

In an interview with the Echoo Room Podcast that was posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Reekado Banks clarified that while his departure was free of controversy, he was still young and ready to forge his own path.

Reekado Banks said, ” It wasn’t a conflict situation. I was pretty young and pretty fixated on what I wanted to do. I wanted to leave. Anyway, my contract ended two years prior. I signed a three-year contract and I allowed it to ride for another two years. So I was there for five years, not like reviewing the contract or anything. So when it was time, I thought I wanted to do this now”

He acknowledged that after leaving the record label, reality quickly sank in.

He continued, “You know, I thought I could do it now. And I just embarked on the journey. Like many people would view it premature. And as soon as I jumped into the sea as well, I realised how premature it was”

Reekado Banks had a humorous yet memorable experience when asked about the best advise he has ever heard from Don Jazzy.

“It wasn’t even advice.” “I’m not going to beat you,” he simply said. “Nobody go beat me,” he recalled, laughing.

The artist has previously discussed his departure from Mavin Records. When he appeared on The Esther Show in July 2025, he disclosed that he had to mature rapidly after quitting the record label, which taught him responsibility and independence.

He went on to say that he might have felt entitled and less accountable for his mistakes if he had stayed longer under Don Jazzy’s tutelage.

In 2018, Reekado Banks formally announced his exit from Mavin Records, characterizing the separation as cordial and thankful. He commended Don Jazzy at the time for giving him the platform that molded his career and for treating him like a son.
