The Police Service Commission (PSC) has sought the partnership of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct drug integrity tests for police recruits nationwide.

PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General Hashimu Argungu, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), in Abuja.

Argungu emphasized the importance of ensuring that only mentally and physically sound individuals complete police training, warning against the dangers of arming recruits already dependent on illicit substances.

He revealed that the PSC plans to decentralize the screening process across states and intends to leverage NDLEA’s nationwide presence to identify and filter out drug-using applicants.

Marwa welcomed the proposal, stating that the NDLEA is well-equipped and ready to assist. He underscored the national threat posed by drug abuse and reiterated the agency’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure public safety.

Marwa also noted that NDLEA’s advanced drug test kits are designed to detect attempts to manipulate results, assuring the PSC of reliable screening support.
