Peter Obi, a leader of the opposition, denies rumors that he will be former vice president Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, declaring that he will run for president, come 2027.

Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, declared on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, saying he is going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and he believes he is qualified for it.

When asked on the possibility of being Atiku’s running mate, Obi responded “This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C.”

Although he is an active member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which the opposition has chosen to unseat President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who is seeking a second four-year term in office in 2027, the former governor of Anambra State emphasized that he is still a vibrant member of the Labour Party.

“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country” Obi stated.

Peter Obi added that he can ensure decent administration for all Nigerians in no more than four years, as he doesn’t need a day more than four years to show the direction of good governance.

The coalition is relying on the size of the votes that Atiku and Obi received in the most recent poll.  With a total of over 12 million votes, Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Obi of the Labour Party came in second and third, respectively.
