The Federal Government announced a resolution in the Dangote refinery workers dispute after talks with PENGASSAN. The agreement ensures redeployed staff keep their jobs.

Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labor and Employment, confirmed this in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said, “After examining the procedure used in the disengagement of workers, the meeting agreed that the management of Dangote Group shall immediately begin the process of redeploying the disengaged staff to other companies within the Dangote Group, with no loss of pay.”

He assured staff that “No worker will be victimised arising from their role in the impasse between Dangote and PENGASSAN.”

According to Dingyadi, PENGASSAN agreed to begin calling off the strike. Both sides accepted the deal in good faith. He added that Nigerian law guarantees that “unionization is a right of workers, and this right should be respected.”

The Dangote refinery workers dispute began when PENGASSAN opposed alleged mass terminations and transfers of union members.

The union accused management of violating labor laws and replacing Nigerian staff with foreign workers.

Management denied the accusations, saying the redeployment was operational and not linked to union activities.

The conflict escalated when PENGASSAN halted gas and crude oil supply, raising fears of energy shortages and economic risks.

The Federal Government intervened, citing the danger of “adverse effects on the economy and energy security.”
