OpenAI has released GPT-5, its most sophisticated AI model, as ChatGPT usage surpasses 700 million weekly users. Described as the company’s “smartest, fastest, most useful” model, GPT-5 delivers major improvements in reasoning, speed, accuracy, and structured problem-solving.
The model combines advanced mathematics, agent capabilities, and earlier innovations like GPT-4o into a single, potent engine.
According to OpenAI, it is already being utilized by significant corporations like BNY Mellon, Figma, California State University, Morgan Stanley, and T-Mobile.
With GPT-5 commended for managing ambiguity and producing dependable, superior outcomes in intricate workflows, ChatGPT’s business products currently have over 5 million subscribers
GPT-5 has already proven to improve accuracy, dependability, and speed in internal workflows, according to Sean Bruich, senior vice president of AI & data at Amgen.
He said, “We hold AI to the highest bar for scientific accuracy and quality… GPT-5 is doing a better job navigating ambiguity where context matters”
Improved context awareness, quicker and more precise responses, better API performance, and sophisticated reasoning for coding, research, and decision-making are some of the main improvements.
ChatGPT Team users can now access GPT-5, and Enterprise and Edu users will be able to do so starting next week.
There will soon be a premium GPT-5 Pro version as well. The launch coincides with a surge in data center investments by AI behemoths, such as Microsoft-backed OpenAI, which is expected to drive industry spending to approximately $400 billion this fiscal year.
According to reports, OpenAI is also considering a possible employee share sale with a valuation of around $500 billion.
