Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested two suspects in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, Bauchi State, for allegedly vandalising railway infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NSCDC spokesperson Saminu Yusuf said the arrest was made following credible intelligence received on Tuesday.
The suspects were intercepted with a white Peugeot J5 bus, registration number KTG 40 XF, loaded with 80 pieces of vandalised railway sleepers and four bags of charcoal.
The State Commandant, Oloyede Oyerinde, praised the swift response of the operatives and emphasized the corps’ commitment to safeguarding national critical infrastructure.
“We will not relent in our efforts to apprehend and prosecute those involved in acts of sabotage. The full weight of the law will be brought upon offenders,” he stated.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that could compromise national assets.
This latest arrest underscores the growing concern over the persistent vandalism of public infrastructure, which hampers national development and endangers public safety.
