The Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Giessen-Friedberg, Germany, reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria. The partnership aims to boost youth employment, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and industrial growth.
The German delegation, led by CEO Dr Matthias Leder, will visit Nigeria from November 2 to 14. They will meet government officials and private sector leaders to expand existing collaborations and explore new opportunities.
Leder said the visit reflects nearly two decades of cooperation with Nigerian chambers and associations. The focus has been on dual vocational training and private-sector-led development.
Since 2005, IHK Giessen-Friedberg has worked with Nigeria to improve technical education and business competitiveness.
The relationship has grown with collaboration between IHK and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce.
Other partners include the Lagos Chamber of Commerce, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, and Nigerian-German Business Association.
Leder highlighted Nigeria’s former Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The November mission includes meetings with ministries of Labour, Youth, Education, Budget, Industry, and Foreign Affairs.
The delegation will expand Germany’s dual vocational training model to Nigeria’s economy and institutions. Nigerian chambers will be empowered to organize training, conduct exams, and enforce quality standards.
The model aims to reduce youth unemployment, improve skills, increase productivity, and strengthen social stability.
The mission will also explore green industry development, energy transition, youth entrepreneurship, and technology transfer.
The IHK has conducted at least two official missions to Nigeria each year in recent times. The German government supports the partnership through its global skills and investment diplomacy agenda.
Leder said the cooperation goes beyond trade, strengthening human capital and creating lasting prosperity.
