Police Confirm Abduction of Kebbi Deputy Speaker, Launch Rescue Operation

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the abduction of Deputy Speaker Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo on Friday night.

Police spokesperson CSP Nafi’u Abubakar said bandits kidnapped the lawmaker around 8:20pm in Bagudo town.

He was seized shortly after observing the Isha’i prayer while returning home. The police said the attack happened in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Abubakar noted that the command had deployed tactical units, soldiers, and local vigilantes for a rescue mission. He further explained that the joint team was tracking the abductors’ routes and searching nearby forests.

Their goal is to rescue the deputy speaker unharmed and arrest those behind the abduction.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property in the state. He also urged residents to stay alert and support security forces in maintaining peace and order.

Government sources said the abductors had not made any ransom demand as of Saturday morning, and the state government has also not released an official statement regarding the incident.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as security teams intensify search efforts in the affected area.
