The Labour Party (LP), led by Julius Abure, has criticized Mr. Peter Obi, its former presidential candidate, for urging members to vote for a different party in the August 16, 2025, bye-election, calling his action “misleading, mischievous, and delusional.”

Abure called on members and supporters to reject Obi’s “malicious” directive and cast a resounding vote for Labour Party candidates in a statement he signed.

The statement read, “Peter Obi has become a political paradox; an Uber politician who refuses to take a stand, cries wolf where there is none, and flirts with multiple parties in his desperate bid to rule Nigeria”

Abure, referring to his involvement with Abia State Governor Alex Otti in organizing the “illegal expanded stakeholders meeting” in Umuahia on September 4, 2024, accused Obi of orchestrating the very crisis he now uses as a justification to undermine the Labour Party.

Along with co-funding the internal strife, he also claimed to have led a protest against his party to INEC. According to Abure, “Despite the goodwill he enjoyed from this leadership, Obi has repaid it with betrayal and sabotage.

“He lacks the competence, character, and capacity to deliver the vision of a New Nigeria”

Julius Abure maintained that the Labour Party has taken all legal measures to guarantee that its candidates will be on the ballot for the bye-election and all subsequent elections.

“We call on our candidates, members, and supporters in all affected states to stay focused, vote Labour, and deliver victory,” he said. “Nigerians now know who Peter Obi really is.”
