Chief Audu Ogbeh, a former Agriculture and Rural Development Minister has passed away at the age of 78. The family of the late Elder Statesman signed and released a statement on Saturday that included this information. The elder statesman died peacefully on August 9, 2025, the statement said.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Chief Audu Ogbeh,” the statement read.
“He departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community”
Through decades of public service, Ogbeh set a great example and touched many lives, according to his family.
On July 28, 1947, the late Ogbeh was born in what is now Benue State. From 1967 to 1969, he was a student at King’s College in Lagos. From 1969 to 1972, he attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, and from 1973 to 1974, he attended the University of Toulouse in France.
In the Shehu Shagari administration (1979-1983), he served as a minister after starting his political career as a member of the Benue State House of Assembly.
