The Enugu State Police Command has arrested six suspects linked to armed robbery and cult-related crimes in separate operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Monday in Enugu. He said operatives also seized firearms, drugs, and other incriminating items from the suspects.
According to Ndukwe, the operation was part of a sustained effort to curb violent crimes. He stressed that the Enugu Police arrests show the command’s renewed commitment to fighting cultism and robbery in the state.
On August 22, at about 5 a.m., operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested four male suspects. Police recovered a firearm, an expended cartridge, and substances believed to be methamphetamine, also known as “Mkpuru-miri.” Their arrest followed a confession made by another suspect earlier detained for cultism, robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Investigations revealed that two of the arrested men belong to the Black Axe confraternity, while the other two are members of the Vikings group.
In another case, police operatives, working with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested a 48-year-old man in Udi Local Government Area. Officers recovered a locally made pistol from him. He later admitted to being a member of the Supreme Vikings confraternity.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, assured residents that the command would intensify its crackdown on criminals. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, obey the law, and report suspicious activities.
