Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has suspended his Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, Felix Osemwengie Isere, for engaging in unauthorized fundraising activities ahead of a scheduled Oil and Gas Summit.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, in Benin City. The statement also confirmed the cancellation of the proposed summit, which was slated to begin on August 7, 2025.
“Due to the breach, the proposed oil and gas summit is suspended, and Isere is directed to refund all monies collected from donors for the event,” the statement read.
Ikhilor added that donors are advised to cease all transactions or communications with the suspended aide, pending further investigations.
This move underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to transparency and accountability in public service, especially in managing events that involve public or private funding.
