D’Tigress AfroBasket 2025 campaign continued in dominant fashion as Nigeria’s women’s basketball team edged past Mozambique 60-55 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The victory secured their place in the quarterfinals and extended their impressive winning streak to 26 games.
With a solid second-half performance, the reigning champions overcame a 28-24 halftime deficit in a hotly contested Group D match at the Palais des Sports de Treichville.
Nigeria finished the game with a final-period run of 18-12 after winning the third quarter 18-15. Leia Dongue of Mozambique scored 11 points in a losing effort, while Murjanatu Musa led the scorers with 19.
Even though D’Tigress struggled from three-point range, shooting only 13.04% compared to Mozambique’s 20%, they displayed their signature tenacity by going on a critical 12-0 run in the third quarter that changed the tide of the game.
Nigeria’s victory put them atop Group D and guaranteed them a trip to the quarterfinals as they pursue an AfroBasket championship for the sixth time in a row.
Later this week, D’Tigress is anticipated to make a court appearance with the goal of preserving their supremacy on the continent and defending their African crown.
