A Magistrate’s Court in Kuje, Abuja, on Friday granted bail to activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s brother Emmanuel, and ten others. Each defendant received ₦500,000 bail with two sureties.
The Kuje Court grants bail to Sowore and others accused of inciting public unrest during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja on October 20. Authorities arrested Sowore on October 23 at the Federal High Court while he was showing solidarity with Kanu.
The defendants face charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and disturbing public peace under sections 100, 101, 104, 152, 114, and 113 of the Penal Code. Police allege the group blocked traffic, obstructed movement, and chanted war songs that threatened public order.
The defence team disputed the prosecution’s counter-affidavit, noting it carried the wrong case number. They argued the document was invalid. The Magistrate agreed, ruling that the counter-affidavit was not legally valid in the present case.
Following the ruling, the Kuje Court granted bail to Sowore and all other defendants. The court required sureties to present three years of tax clearance and valid identification.
The court adjourned the case to December 15, 2025, for hearing.
