“We extend our deepest condolences to her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.

“Her voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.”

Somtochukwu Maduagwu, fondly called “Sommie,” combined her journalism career with legal training. Colleagues and friends described her as kind, professional, and dedicated.

The Nigeria Police launched an investigation into the attack. FCT Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale directed the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and the Special Intelligence Unit to lead the probe.

Katampe Divisional Police Officer, CSP Sadiq Abubakar, confirmed that his division had started investigations. FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh added that CP Adewale ordered special tactical teams, including crime scene experts, to join the case.

Maduagwu lived alone in Katampe while her parents resided in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
