The All Progressives Congress (APC) has swept all 25 chairmanship seats in the recently concluded Niger State Local Government elections.
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) confirmed the results, describing the polls as “credible, transparent, and reflective of the people’s will.”
Mohammed Liman, the NSIEC Commissioner for Operations, said all Returning Officers completed the collation and announcement of results in line with electoral laws.
“After careful review, the Commission approved and ratified the results, confirming the duly elected chairmen and councillors who satisfied all legal requirements,” Liman stated.
The APC wins Niger LG elections by large margins across all 25 Local Government Areas, including Agaie, Bida, Kontagora, Lapai, Bosso, Chanchaga, and Wushishi. Newly elected chairmen include Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie), Usman Mohammed (Bida), Mustapha Jibrin (Chanchaga), Lawal Yusuf (Kontagora), and Mohammed Lokogoma (Wushishi).
In Bosso, APC polled 29,140 votes, while the PDP managed 6,039. Similar results appeared in Lapai with APC scoring 43,604, SDP 2,639, and PDP 1,429. In Suleja, APC recorded 61,877 votes, compared to 1,146 for SDP. Gbako saw APC win 32,310 votes, while PDP received 7,363.
The APC wins Niger LG elections with continued dominance in Bida (40,868 vs 8,386 PDP) and Chanchaga (25,340 vs 10,216 PDP). Other results showed APC’s lead in Kontagora (25,154 vs 7,164 PDP), Borgu (44,248 vs 3,172 PDP), and Mariga (25,485 vs 6,662 PDP). Additional figures include Edati (20,414 vs 8,553 PDP), Mokwa (27,100 vs 11,210 PDP), and Lavun (53,257 vs 1,340 PDP).
NSIEC also validated results from all 274 wards. The APC won 271 councillorship seats, while the PDP secured two seats in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas.
Liman congratulated all elected officials and urged them to lead with transparency, accountability, and dedication to service. He thanked security agencies, political parties, observers, the media, IPAC, ALGON, and voters for their roles in ensuring a smooth and peaceful election.
According to NSIEC, all elected officials will soon receive their Certificates of Return, with stakeholders properly notified of the presentation date.
