Veteran Nollywood Actor Chief Kanran Is Dead

Nollywood Veteran actor, Olusegun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has passed away at the age of 72.

Movie producer Seun Oloketuyi confirmed the news on Friday, posting on Instagram that the well-known actor had died earlier in the day. He wrote, “Popular actor Segun Remi popularly known as Chief Kanran died Friday morning.”

Kanran began acting professionally in 1975 and is well-known for portraying a wealthy man in films. In a play by Prof. Ola Rotimi of the same name, he portrayed Kurunmi.

He also made appearances in a few Mirror in the Sun episodes, which was the first time he went from stage to screen.  At the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, he made his stage debut in Langbodo, Nigeria’s drama entry to Festac ’77.

The late actor played the role of Alaafin Kanran in a drama that aired on Lagos Television on October 1, 1988.

A well-known figure in the Yoruba film industry, Chief Kanran is praised for his distinct acting style, charisma, keen sense of humor, and impactful performances that made him a longtime favorite both on stage and in movies.
