The United States has jailed Oba Oloyede COVID-19 fraud suspect, Oba Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State.
On Tuesday, Justice Christopher Boyko sentenced the monarch to 56 months in prison. He also ordered him to “pay $4,408,543 in restitution and serve 3 years of supervised release after imprisonment.”
Oloyede was arrested in April 2024 with Pastor Edward Oluwasanmi, a Nigerian preacher. Both men were accused of submitting false information on loan applications during the COVID-19 relief program. The 13-count charge linked them to a $4.2 million fraud scheme.
The US attorney’s office for the Northern District of Ohio confirmed that Oloyede will forfeit $96,006 seized during the investigation and his Medina residence.
In July 2025, Pastor Oluwasanmi received a 27-month prison sentence for his role in the scam.
