Donald Trump has threatened to deploy the National Guard to Baltimore, escalating his feud with Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
The former president already sent the National Guard to Washington and armed them on city streets. In June, he controversially deployed nearly 5,000 troops to Los Angeles, facing sharp criticism from California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Reports suggest Trump could send the National Guard to Chicago next. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson strongly oppose the move. Trump claims Democratic-led cities are “crime-ridden” and need federal control. Democrats accuse him of political grandstanding.
On Truth Social, Trump mocked Moore while warning Baltimore could receive troops. “If Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the troops and quickly clean up the crime,” Trump wrote.
Moore pushed back, noting Baltimore’s homicide rate dropped 20 percent under his leadership. He invited Trump to walk the city’s streets. Donald Trump dismissed the progress, calling Moore “nasty” and even threatening to cut federal aid.
The Pentagon has not confirmed Chicago deployments, but Trump insists Chicago and New York will be “next.” He told reporters: “We’re going to make our cities very, very safe.”
