President Bola Tinubu will travel to Brazil and Japan today, August 14, 2025, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  In a statement released on Wednesday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga revealed this.

The Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22, will be the President’s first stop, he said.

According to Onanuga, TICAD9’s theme, “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will center on advancing Africa’s economic transformation, enhancing business environments and institutions via private investment and innovation, and fostering a resilient, sustainable African society based on peace, stability, and human security.

The statement claims that Tinubu will interact with the CEOs of Japanese businesses that are investing in Nigeria and hold bilateral meetings outside of plenary sessions.

The UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank co-host TICAD, which was started by the Japanese government in 1993 and alternates between Japan and Africa every three years.

In August 2022, the most recent edition was held in Tunisia.  At the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Tinubu will travel to Brasília for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, following the Japan engagement.

While in Brazil, President Tinubu will attend a business forum with Brazilian investors and have a bilateral meeting with his host.

His delegation, which includes important ministers and high-ranking officials, will look into ways to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements with the Brazilian government and deepen collaboration.
