According to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria is attending the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, with the specific goal of attracting more than $1 billion in commerce and investment, among other things.
The president added that he and his team hope to use the TICAD9 to boost industrial growth and green innovation, increase opportunities for young Nigerians, and establish Nigeria as the hub and entry point to the enormous market in West Africa.
President Tinubu emphasized the main objective of his travel in a post on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, on Wednesday. He stated that Nigeria was attending TICAD9 as a continental leader with a clear purpose, not as a passive participant.
The President wrote, “At #TICAD9, themed ‘Co-create innovative solutions with Africa,’ Nigeria comes with clarity of purpose. Our participation aims to unlock $1Billion+ in trade & investment, drive green innovation & industrial growth, expand opportunities for our youth, and position Nigeria as the heart and gateway to West Africa’s vast market”
The president stressed that Nigeria would lead from the front as Africa forges a road to wealth, stating that “Nigeria will lead, and Africa will rise.”
He characterized the summit as a springboard for “lasting development and global partnership, anchored on technology, talent, and trust.”
African leaders, international investors, and multilateral institutions come together at TICAD9, which is organized in collaboration with the Japanese government and other development partners, to discuss solutions for the continent’s sustainable economic growth.
Tinubu’s remarks for Nigeria represented a firm push to enhance innovation-driven industrialization, expand economic relations with Japan, and emphasize the country’s pivotal role in regional integration.
