The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) In Borno State has been renamed in honor of former President Muhammadu Buhari by President Bola Tinubu. At an enlarged FEC meeting held in honor of the former Nigerian leader at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, President Tinubu made this announcement.
“Before we take the prayers in honour of his memory, with this special session of the Federal Executive Council (expanded), can we adopt the naming of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) with a new name; Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri?” President Tinubu said.
Days after a group urged the president to immortalize the Ex-President Buhari for his contributions to the nation’s development, President Tinubu made his decision.
On Tuesday, former president Buhari was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. After a protracted illness, he passed away in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13. In their eulogies, a number of well-known Nigerians praised the late president’s contributions to the nation’s progress.
