Nigeria’s Super Falcons kicked off their quest for a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) title with a dominant 3-0 win over Tunisia in Casablanca.

Veteran striker Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 4th minute, pouncing on a low, in-swinging free-kick from Rinsola Babajide. The former Barcelona forward bundled the ball home in a crowded Tunisian penalty area.

Babajide, who switched international allegiance from England to Nigeria in 2023, made it 2-0 just before halftime. She drilled a composed finish past Tunisian goalkeeper Soulaima Jobrani in first-half stoppage time, marking her debut goal at a senior international tournament.

Nigeria sealed the win in the 84th minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo converted a precise cross from Ashleigh Plumptre, rounding off a clinical team performance.

With the win, the Super Falcons top Group B of the WAFCON 2024 table, following Algeria’s narrow 1-0 victory over Botswana.
