Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike expressed confidence that the Rivers State state of emergency will end on September 18.

He made the remark after casting his vote in the ongoing local government election. Wike said the expiration will allow the State House of Assembly to resume full legislative duties.

“This election is peaceful. People are turning out in large numbers. The process is running smoothly,” he said.

Wike stressed that once the emergency rule ends, the assembly will return, and governance will resume at the grassroots level.

He explained that the presence of both state and local government representatives makes conditions favorable for ending the Rivers State state of emergency.

“The coast is clear. Both state and local governments have their representatives. We are good to go,” Wike noted.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu declared the Rivers State state of emergency to prevent a political crisis. He suspended the State House of Assembly, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy for six months.
