The Anambra State Government has declared Friday, November 7, 2025, a work-free day for all civil servants. The decision, effective immediately, comes ahead of the crucial governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

In a statement on Thursday, November 6, the Head of Service (HOS), Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe, announced the directive.

She said Governor Chukwuma Soludo approved the work-free day before election to allow civil servants to travel to their hometowns and take part in the polls.

Mrs. Igwegbe emphasized that voting is a civic duty and a vital pillar of democracy and good governance. She noted that the governor’s decision aims to encourage full participation of the state’s workforce in the electoral process.

“Voting is an important civic obligation and a crucial component of democracy and good governance,” she said.

“This move is intended to promote the active engagement of the state’s personnel in the electoral process.”

The Head of Service also instructed all political appointees, permanent secretaries, and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure total compliance.

She urged them to promptly inform their staff of the directive and guarantee full adherence across all government offices.
