In the Wimbledon semifinals on Friday, July 11, Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic, securing a matchup with reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday.
After defeating Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, the world number one advanced to his first Wimbledon Grand Slam final and his fourth in a row.
The 23-year-old, who wasted three championship points in last month’s thrilling Roland Garros final, will be keen to exact revenge for his heartbreaking French Open defeat to world number two Alcaraz.
Together, Sinner and Alcaraz have won the last six majors, solidifying their position as the new tennis kings.
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic looked ill and will now have to wait for another chance to win a record 25th Grand Slam championship. His attempt to match Roger Federer’s men’s record of eight Wimbledon titles has been put on hold as this is the first time since 2017 that he has not advanced to the Wimbledon final.
“it’s amazing,” Sinner remarked, ““It’s a tournament I always watched when I was young on television, and I never imagined I could play here in the finals”
“From my side, I served very well, felt great on court, and moved really well today. We saw in the third set that he was a bit injured. He’s been in a very difficult situation, but I tried to stay calm and play the best tennis I can.”
