Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani declared that ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai played no role in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.

Sani made the statement on Monday during an interview on TVC’s Politics Tonight. He contrasted his own political journey with El-Rufai’s, stressing that their paths into public service were fundamentally different.

Shehu Sani said Nasir and others who never fought for democracy don’t understand it when they attain positions or offices.

The former lawmaker recalled his years as an activist, highlighting arrests, imprisonment, and persecution during the battle against military rule.

Sani said he endured prisons, police stations, leg chains, and handcuffs as a political prisoner fighting for Nigeria’s 25-year democracy.

He said his path to politics was through sacrifice and activism, while El-Rufai rose after 1999 via appointments.
