Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a six-count indictment filed against her by the Federal Government. She described the charges as politically motivated and a misuse of prosecutorial authority.

Her legal team filed a motion claiming the allegations protect Yahaya Bello and Akpabio from public scrutiny.

The senator alleged the indictment protects Bello and Akpabio’s interests and lacks any legitimate public purpose.

Citing Section 174(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), her lawyers argued that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) violated constitutional guidelines. The section mandates that prosecutorial actions must align with public interest, justice, and the prevention of legal abuse.

“The prosecution against me is a gross abuse of legal authority,” Akpoti-Uduaghan stated.  “It serves no public purpose.”

She claimed in an affidavit that officials made the May 22, 2025 indictment in bad faith to support her case. The alleged defamatory remarks in the charges targeted Bello and Akpabio in their personal capacities.

The senator cited newspaper articles as public records exposing the Senate President’s true character to support her case.

She said “political and personal rivalry motivated the petitions and events that led to her imprisonment, offering no public benefit”

Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed officials misused public funds to pursue personal vendettas and protect individuals with questionable reputations from scrutiny.
