According to rapper Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, also known as CDQ, he quit his job in banking to focus on his musical career. CDQ stated in an Echo Room interview that he became a banker to fulfill the wish of his late father, but he later discovered that banking wasn’t his true vocation.

According to CDQ, he quit his job because he stopped concentrating on his banking duties during work hours and instead started writing lyrics. He confided in Masterkraft, a friend and music producer who had previously lent him suits to wear to the bank.

He claims that when he informed Masterkraft that he had left his banking position to pursue his musical career, Masterkraft was taken aback. CDQ talked about his love of music and said he would still be content to pursue it even if it didn’t lead to financial success.

“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that, whether it gives me a return or not, I’m still happy doing it” he recalled.

With the release of his hit song “Indomie,” which featured Masterkraft and Olamide, CDQ’s music career took off in 2016. He shot to fame with the remix version, which featured Davido.
