Despite rising defections ahead of the 2027 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its resolve to stand firm against the All Progressives Congress (APC).

National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba accused the APC of coercion and inducement. He described the defections as part of a wider plan to weaken the opposition. “No amount of blackmail or harassment can silence the PDP. These defections are moves orchestrated by those who want to turn Nigeria into a one-party state,” he said.

Rumors suggest that Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah may defect to the APC. Neither governor has confirmed any plans. Ologunagba insists the PDP remains strong, recalling that the party has weathered similar storms in the past.

Inside the PDP, emotions range from frustration to determination. Some members see the defections as a purge revealing true loyalists.

Activities at the PDP Legacy House in Abuja have intensified, with teams working to rebuild trust ahead of the 2027 election.

“Nigerians have not defected from hunger, insecurity, or hardship. They seek relief, and the PDP represents hope and prosperity based on our record of performance. The PDP built its foundation to protect Nigeria’s diversity. That mission has not changed,” Ologunagba said.

The PDP believes its survival reflects resilience, even as defections test its strength. Ologunagba said, “The deciding factor in the 2027 election will be who saves Nigeria’s democracy, not who holds power.”
