The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has warned Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike against derailing the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a communiqué issued after its 7th meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, the governors reaffirmed full support for the resolutions of the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee held in July. They insisted the convention will hold as planned.

“The Forum reaffirms its full commitment to the NEC resolutions. Members must resist all attempts to derail the convention by anti-party forces. The PDP remains the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria to the path of good governance and development,” the communiqué stated.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed chaired the meeting, which discussed insecurity, the erosion of democratic values, and preparations for the convention. The governors praised PDP leaders and members for overcoming defections, stressing the party’s grassroots strength remains intact.

They accused the ruling APC of divisive policies and governance that deepen hardship for Nigerians. The forum also pledged continued efforts to rescue the country.

Wike, however, has voiced opposition to the PDP National Working Committee over the South-South Caretaker Committee and the retention of Ali Odefa as National Vice Chairman (South East). Wike, on Channels Television’s Politics Today, insisted that a Calabar congress duly elected his ally, Dan Orbih, as South-South National Vice Chairman.

“If they don’t accept Chief Dan Orbih, that’s another round of crisis,” Wike warned. He also rejected the zoning committee led by Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri.

Wike and his former G5 ally, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, have since parted ways. Some party members accuse Wike, now in an APC-led cabinet, of anti-party activities, which he denies.
