The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national executive committee (NEC) has authorized November 15 and 16 as election dates for new members of the national working committee (NWC). The NEC meeting, which took place on Thursday at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, approved the dates.
At the height of the national secretary issue in April, the PDP governors suggested August 28 as the date of the party’s national convention. PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba read a statement following the meeting in which he stated the NEC informed members that the party is “strong, united, cohesive, stable, and focused.”
It read, “Pursuant to the foregoing, NEC approved the year 2025 elective national convention schedule of activities and timetable,” “Under the approved timetable, the elective national convention to elect the next set of national officers of our party will be held on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.”
NEC instructed Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary, and Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman, to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the election’s schedule, location, and agenda, according to Ologunagba.
To “ensure a successful, transparent, and credible elective national convention,” he said, the NEC approved the national convention committee’s membership and the national convention zoning committee’s composition.
The NEC ordered the NWC to “take immediate legal action to recover the seats of all serving members of the national and state assemblies” who were elected on the PDP platform but switched parties, according to Ologunagba.
According to him, the NEC voiced “serious concern and frowns at” some party members’ engagement in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition’s meetings, events, and activities.
“NEC calls on these members to reconsider their actions and show loyalty and commitment as members of the PDP, especially as the law does not permit membership of two political parties at the same time” he stated.
