A tragic Oyingbo building collapse occurred early Monday at No. 54, Cole Street, Cemetery Bus Stop, beside UBA Bank. The two-story structure caved in around midnight, trapping several residents beneath the debris.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) confirmed it received a distress call at 12:20 a.m. Firefighters from the Sari Iganmu Fire Station arrived nine minutes later to begin rescue operations.
LSFRS Director Margaret Adeseye said 15 victims; seven men, four women, and four children, had been rescued alive. “All survivors sustained varying injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital in Odan and the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Meta for urgent treatment,” she stated.
Preliminary reports revealed the collapsed building had earlier been marked as distressed. Despite the warning, tenants continued to occupy the premises before it gave way.
Adeseye added that rescue efforts remain ongoing. “We are working tirelessly to recover anyone still trapped under the rubble,” she said. “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, alongside other emergency agencies, remains fully deployed to ensure every victim is safely recovered.”
