Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, has said that he has no interest in running for governor of Osun State in 2026. At a stakeholder meeting for the All Progressives Congress on Friday in Osogbo, Oyetola, the state’s immediate past governor, informed the party leaders of his decision. Oyetola had been implied as a potential candidate for governor.
Speaking during the gathering, which was attended by five candidates for governor, Oyetola, who co-led the meeting with Tajudeen Lawal, the chairman of the Osun APC, and Sola Akinwumi, the chairman of the Elders’ Caucus, said that it was crucial and possible to return the APC to power by 2026.
After declaring that he will not be vying for the APC gubernatorial ticket, he wished all those competing on the party’s platform for the August 7, 2026 election the best of luck.
Oyetola said, “We have qualified, competent, and people of outstanding track records as aspirants contesting for the governorship election, and this is a unique selling proposition to feast on, and we will continue to complement the federal government’s efforts on all fronts”
