The Ondo State Police Command has debunked reports claiming that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state were asked to contribute ₦39,000 each to facilitate the deployment of personnel to Lagos State for the upcoming local government elections.

In a statement issued on Friday in Akure, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, described the report as “false, misleading, and harmful to public trust.”

“At no time was any officer mandated to make financial contributions,” Ayanlade clarified. “The report is an unfounded attack on the integrity of the Ondo State Police Command.”

He further explained that inter-state personnel deployment is a standard operational protocol within the Nigeria Police Force and aligns with the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) mission of fostering professional and law-abiding policing.

Ayanlade noted that the Ondo State Police Command had taken full responsibility for logistics and welfare, ensuring that officers deployed to Lagos were not burdened financially.

“A large number of officers have already reported to their assigned posts without incurring any personal cost,” he said.

He condemned the publication in question, stating it stemmed from a “lack of understanding of police procedures” and was aimed at discrediting the command.

“We urge the public to disregard this misinformation and continue to support our commitment to transparency and professionalism,” Ayanlade added.
