The Ondo State government has announced a graduation party ban for nursery and junior secondary students.

Bisi Lawani, press officer at the Education Ministry, confirmed the directive in a Wednesday statement. Commissioner Igbekele Ajibefun announced the decision during a meeting with school owners across the state’s 18 LGAs.

Ajibefun explained that the graduation party ban will reduce parents’ financial burden and refocus attention on academic milestones. Only Primary 6 and Senior Secondary School students may hold graduation ceremonies.

He also revealed that the state has outlawed unregistered schools and will re-accredit all private schools to improve standards.

“It is obvious that things have gone bad in the education sector. We must act urgently to restore lost glory,” Ajibefun said.

The Ondo graduation party ban aligns with recent policies in Benue and Imo states. Both states directed that only terminal classes under Nigeria’s 6-3-3-4 system may hold ceremonies.
