The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his approval and gazetting of the Act that upgrades the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI).

Describing the move as “historic,” the monarch said the development marks a new dawn for educational and socio-economic growth in Yewaland, Ogun West, and Ogun State at large.

“This is a giant leap. FUTI’s gazette is the best birthday gift to generations of Ogun West sons and daughters who now have a Federal University to call their own,” the monarch stated in a Sunday release.

The institution’s upgrade was signed into law by President Tinubu in May 2025, following the passage of a bill sponsored by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI), who represents Ogun West.

The announcement was initially made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who praised both the president and Senator Adeola for delivering on the legislative promise.

Oba Olugbenle praised Senator Adeola for his “unrelenting efforts and strategic advocacy” toward achieving the long-awaited transformation.

“This milestone reflects what is possible when a dedicated leader takes action, our royal institutions lend their voice, and the people stand together with hope and determination,” he added.

The monarch expressed optimism that the upgrade of the polytechnic would lead to rapid educational advancement, improved infrastructure, and job creation across Ogun West.

He further called for accelerated implementation and the immediate commencement of academic activities at the new university to bring its benefits closer to the people.
