Former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu has denied claims of a fallout between President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, saying both men remain united under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in an interview on Trust TV’s 30 Minutes on Monday, Shehu described the speculation as unfounded and insisted that no formal disagreement exists between the two leaders.
“People are entitled to their opinions. But officially, there is no distrust or fallout between the Buhari and Tinubu administrations,” he said.
Garba Shehu emphasized that Muhammadu Buhari remains fully committed to the APC and continues to show gratitude to the party that helped him win the presidency after three unsuccessful attempts.
“For Muhammadu Buhari, he’s still very much an APC member. He has always said, ‘I will never be ungrateful. I will never betray the party that gave me two terms in office,’” Shehu stated.
He also dismissed reports that Buhari’s loyalists are uneasy with the current direction of the APC under Tinubu’s leadership.
“We read these statements when people say such things. Are we disturbed? I don’t think that’s the right word,” Shehu noted.
Reflecting on the party’s formation, Shehu pointed out that the APC’s creation in 2014 required unity, sacrifice, and resilience, and that those involved in its foundation are unlikely to act against its interests.
“It took hard work, energy, and sacrifice to bring the APC together. After trying multiple times, the opposition groups finally joined forces in 2014 and won. Those who saw how much effort it took to build that coalition won’t be the ones to tear it down,” he added.
