President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday said Nigeria remains resilient and will not be shaken by Trump’s tariffs on exports.

Tinubu made the statement while receiving The Buhari Organisation, led by ex-Nasarawa Governor Tanko Al-Makura, during a solidarity visit.

The President said Nigeria’s growing non-oil revenues and stable fiscal outlook provide strong buffers against the impact of Trump’s tariffs.

Tinubu said if non-oil revenue keeps growing, Nigeria has no reason to fear Trump’s actions on the other side.

The U.S. President’s second term introduced sweeping trade changes, including a 10 percent baseline tariff on most imports and country-specific levies. Nigeria currently faces a 15 per cent tariff on exports, up from an earlier 14 per cent. However, oil and gas products are exempt.

Despite Trump’s tariffs, Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s improved economy, noting his administration met the 2025 revenue target by August. He said the naira strengthened to about ₦1,450 per dollar from ₦1,900 after unifying exchange rates in May 2023.

Tinubu also highlighted his agricultural reforms, stressing that food production remains central to economic recovery.

“If we remove hunger, we have defeated poverty,” he said, citing ongoing mechanisation programmes across several regions.

“The President recalled APC’s early days, revealing he and late President Buhari once clashed over the party’s logo during 2013 merger talks.

“He (Buhari) insisted on parliament, and I insisted on broom,” Tinubu said with laughter. The broom was ultimately adopted, symbolising unity against corruption and poor governance.

The meeting drew northern APC leaders, including Governor Dikko Radda and ex-Governor Aminu Masari, signaling early consolidation before 2027.
