The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has urged tertiary institutions to upload accurate student data ahead of the 2025/2026 session.
NELFUND’s spokesperson, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said the exercise aims to ensure a smooth verification and loan process when the Student Verification Portal opens. He explained that institutions must submit records of both returning and new students using valid admission numbers or other approved identifiers.
According to him, NELFUND values the role of schools in the success of the student loan scheme. He noted that proper collaboration would help the agency reach all eligible Nigerian students without delay.
Oluwatuyi advised schools to complete the upload quickly and assign officials to oversee the process. He added that only students whose details are verified by their institutions would qualify for the loan.
He emphasised that cooperation between NELFUND and schools is vital to achieving transparency and fairness in the scheme. Furthermore, the fund wants to prevent eligible students from missing out due to administrative lapses.
The agency stated that the verification process would run through the Student Loan Access System portal. Through it, institutions will confirm and upload student data linked to loan requests.
Once verified, each student’s status on the portal will change to “Disbursed,” confirming payment. The fund said the process would speed up loan access and strengthen accountability in education financing.
NELFUND reaffirmed its goal to expand access to higher education and ensure that every qualified student can study without financial barriers.
