The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially launched its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. The application period runs from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026, according to Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications.
“The student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session officially opens on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and will close on Saturday, January 31, 2026,” the statement read.
Oluwatuyi encouraged qualified Nigerian students to apply early and take advantage of the NELFUND student loan opportunity to finance their education.
NELFUND advised new students to apply using their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number instead of a matriculation number to ensure smooth processing. The agency also appealed to tertiary institutions to accommodate students awaiting loan disbursement.
“Institutions are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement,” Oluwatuyi said.
He added that schools yet to begin the 2025/2026 session should share their academic calendar with NELFUND for effective scheduling.
“Institutions that have not yet commenced their 2025/2026 academic session should formally write to NELFUND with their approved academic calendar for scheduling flexibility,” the statement noted.
NELFUND reaffirmed its mission to ensure that no Nigerian student misses education due to financial hardship.
The fund, established under President Bola Tinubu’s higher education initiative, provides interest-free loans to students in tertiary institutions nationwide.
