The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered illicit drugs concealed inside vehicle side mirrors, in a striking example of evolving smuggling techniques.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed the latest interception on Sunday via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“They’ve found another use for our vehicles’ side mirrors as discovered by #ndlea_nigeria officers in one of our latest seizures. Let’s be more careful,” Babafemi wrote, alongside a video showing the disassembly of the mirror compartments.
This interception is part of a rising trend of unconventional concealment methods by drug traffickers. In recent months, NDLEA has discovered narcotics stashed in lipstick tubes, prayer beads, clothes hangers, and even seams of traditional dresses.
The agency has intensified profiling and surveillance operations at airports, seaports, and border checkpoints, staying ahead of traffickers’ deceptive tactics.
“We remain committed to protecting the nation from the scourge of drugs. No matter how clever the method, we will find it,” an NDLEA source affirmed.

The NDLEA urges the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity, as traffickers continue to devise new ways to bypass security systems.
