Napoli returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Inter Milan, reclaiming the Serie A top spot at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Kevin De Bruyne scored but later limped off injured in the first half.
AC Milan’s draw with Pisa on Friday left the door open for Napoli, who now lead the league by one point. The win ended Napoli’s poor run after losing two of their previous three Serie A matches and suffering a 6-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Napoli took the lead after 33 minutes when Henrikh Mkhitaryan fouled Giovanni Di Lorenzo, earning the hosts a penalty. De Bruyne converted confidently for his fourth Serie A goal, but immediately clutched his hamstring and had to be helped off the pitch.
Scott McTominay doubled the advantage in the 54th minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. Five minutes later, Inter pulled one back through Hakan Calhanoglu, who scored from the penalty spot after Alessandro Buongiorno handled the ball.
Andre-Frank Anguissa sealed the win in the 67th minute with a fine finish, restoring Napoli’s two-goal cushion.
With the victory, Napoli climbed to first place in Serie A, one point above AC Milan. Inter Milan, now trailing behind, will hope to bounce back when Roma face Sassuolo on Sunday, a result that could reshuffle the top four.
