When Liverpool play their first game since the Portuguese international’s passing on Sunday at Preston, they will pay tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

On July 3, a car accident in northern Spain claimed the lives of Jota and Silva. The result was a postponement of Liverpool’s return to preseason training until Tuesday.

In the first of Liverpool’s preseason friendlies, the game against Preston of the English Championship will proceed as planned.

Before kickoff at 14:00GMT, a version of Liverpool’s song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” will be played, and Preston will present a wreath to the away fans. Following a minute of silence, players from both teams will don black armbands, and digital tributes will be shown on the stadium’s big screen and on the pitchside advertising boards.

Jota and his brother perished after their Lamborghini went off the road and caught fire. Jota had married his longtime lover Rute Cardoso eleven days before to the catastrophe.

Last Saturday, Jota’s burial was attended by Liverpool manager Arne Slot and several first-team players, including captain Virgil van Dijk.
