On Tuesday, 30th September 2025, the Lagos State Government reopened the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge after repairing 400 meters of expansion joints.

To enable the work, a section of the bridge closed to vehicles on June 28, according to NAN.

The inbound Alapere lane was due in 100 days, but repairs finished in 73 days.

Phases one to four covered the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Alapere length and ended between June 28 and August 16.

Starting in August, phases five to eight focused on the incoming Oworoshoki axis. The contractors completed them and reopened them to traffic.

A team led by Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, and Seun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, inspected and certified the work.

Daramola said the contractors’ dedication and stakeholders’ cooperation cut the project timeline from 101 days to 78 days.

He explained that neglected expansion joints could endanger drivers’ safety and weaken the busy Ogudu-Ifako bridge.

Daramola praised the cooperation of contractors, security agencies, and Lagos residents. He said: “We undertook this repair to guarantee safety. Thankfully, with the cooperation of the people, we have been able to deliver ahead of schedule.”

He stressed that the bridge is now fully open to unhindered traffic and thanked locals for their patience.

Daramola disclosed that the government will next focus on Maza-Maza, where similar maintenance projects are planned.
